Fleckney Spinners

your village, your table tennis club

Your Local Home for Table Tennis

Fleckney Spinners Table Tennis Club was formed in 2018 by a group of players keen to offer both social and competitive opportunities in and around Fleckney, Leicestershire.

The Club grew out of a daytime session held at Fleckney Sports Centre and aimed to give participants more opportunities to play in the evening, attracting new players and supporting everyone to develop their table tennis skills and enjoy the social side of the sport.

The Club is recognised as a Premier Club by Table Tennis England and is now one of the largest in Leicestershire.

We currently have around 50 members and offer coaching for Juniors and Beginners on most Wednesday evenings, as well as running four teams competing in the Leicester League.

The Club has temporarily relocated to Kibworth Mead Academy while Fleckney Sports Centre undergoes redevelopment, and we hope to return “home” in Spring 2027.

The table tennis season runs from September to April. There are five league divisions, each with between 10 and 13 teams. Teams consist of three players, and a match comprises nine singles games and one doubles.

We hold coaching and practice sessions every Wednesday. The League also runs handicap competitions and a summer league on the same basis.

If you’re interested in improving your game, meeting new people, or simply enjoying a friendly and welcoming club atmosphere, Fleckney Spinners is always delighted to welcome new members.

April 2026 Newsletter

Friday the 13th was unlucky for us as it was the beginning of the end of our old home when demolition work started on Fleckney Sports Centre on Friday 13th March. Fleckney Sports Hall may be fully demolished at the time of writing, but a brand, shiny new hall should be available for us in about a year’s time. In the meantime, we are located in the Main Hall in Kibworth Mead Grammar School, and all are welcome to join us for our Wednesday night sessions at 7pm with free coaching for those who want it. We are looking forward to our club tournament on May 6th and everyone is eligible to complete as this contest is handicapped.

League news:
There was more bad luck for Fleckney 2 (F2) against Winstanley Wizards 3 (WW3) on the 16th with a 7-3 defeat for our guys: another tough game against a good team but a well-earned point nonetheless. Fleckney 3 (F3) lost to Winstanley Wizards 5 (WW5) the following night. Another point in many close games with a nice double for Pete Wilson was followed by another disappointing night for F3 with a 10 -nil defeat at the hands of Knighton Park 16 (KP16) which is why KP16 top the league by a great distance with averages ranging from 85% to 100%. A good win on 25th and 26th by F1 against the Goons moving us up to 6th place. The last match of the season saw F1 lose to Great Glen 7-3 but our teams gained one point.

League Results There was a 7/3 defeat for Fleckney 2 (F2) by Knighton Park (KP11) to start the year off followed by the same score for F1 against KP14. On the 14th there was a close match in the Fleckney derby with a 6/4 win for F3 over F4. Leicester Tennis and Squash 2 (LTS2) beat F4 9/1, and it was difficult for our team to see the ball in an ultra-bright (squash court) venue. A competitive match resulted when F1 met KP10 resulting in a 5/5 draw. The Nomads 2 (N2) beat F4 in a close run contest (6/4) and finally there was an emphatic win by a very strong F3 team, seeing off the N2 team with a 9/1 victory. Desford Village 4 (DV4) beat F3 9/1 on 26th January. It was a hard night but well done, Jan Green, for holding their feet to the fire and gaining us a point. With a break for half-term on 18/02/26, we will be up and ready for more from 25th February. Ladies ready for action

January 2026 Newsletter

The accompanying photograph shows the current Committee of the Fleckney Spinners Table Tennis Club, left to right: Miriam Wohl (press and recruitment, safeguarding), Anita Pabla (quartermaster/mistress), Rob Logan (all-round good egg), Callum Harbidge (secretary), Bob Palmer (Chair, safeguarding) and half of James Robertson (treasurer).

League Results

December began with a 9/1 loss for Fleckney 4 (F4) to Knighton Park XIV (KP14), and another tough night happened at the end of November when F4 lost 7/3 to Regents 2 (R2) with Will Clark again making mincemeat of our boys, but a good showing from Craig Bosworth and Matt Tattershall for the Spinners. It was a far closer contest than the final numbers suggest. F3 lost an away game to KP16 with Shirley Pickering’s next generation of players winning 9/1. This team should win the division as last year’s intake from KP are now in division 3 and division 2. The first half of our League season this year has been getting progressively worse. Fleckney 2 were unlucky not to win their match against Winstanley Wizards 3 with a 5/5 draw. Finally, Fleckney 1 had a really good win to complete the first half of the season and move us up to mid-table with an 8/2 victory over The Goons. We were able to congratulate Drew Harbidge who reached the final of the Phil Read Handicap Singles Tournament on December 22nd by topping his qualifying group.

Coaching

Coaching resumed on January 7th starting at 7pm, all welcome (improvers at 7.45pm) and free play until 9.30pm at Kibworth Mead Main Hall (not the sports hall) with a break for half term on February 18th.

May I take this opportunity to thank everyone at the publication for allowing us to report our successes and failures over the past 7 years.

League Results

November started with a nice 5/5 draw for Fleckney 1 (F1) against Knighton Park 9 (KP9). Against Winstanley Wizards 5 (WW5) there were some close games, and a double from Omar Morsy plus a win from Lennon Devlin secured us another point, losing 3/7 to the visitors. Later that week, F2 drew with KP12, and F3 won a decent point against KP15, but it was a “tough night at the office” with a 7/3 defeat for F1 against WW3. F4 took a hammering against Syston Casuals (10/0) when the Casuals fielded their strongest three players. Matt Tattershall continued to impress, taking two games off Toren Storer and lost 12/10 but only in the fifth game. An excellent 6/4 win for F3 against Leicester Tennis and Squash’s second team (LTS2) cheered us all up, with contributions from everyone and Russell Ferguson doing extremely well in his first season with us. F3 lost 7/3 to WW6, but at least we gained a point and there were two good wins for Jan Green. This was followed by a narrow defeat for F1 against Regent Sports (6/4) despite a fine maximum from James Robertson. KP16 won 8/2 against Matt, Omar and Rob Logan but it was an honourable defeat against the League’s leaders. F3 made mincemeat of WW5 with an 8/2 win including two good wins for Pete Wilson. Leicester Electricity 2 (LE2) beat F1 6/4 which was a decent result against the League’s second-best side. This was followed by a 7/3 win for Regent Sports 2 against F4 giving us a good point against a pretty strong team. Their Will Clark is one of the best players in the division.

All Welcome

As we watch the footballers struggling with the inclement weather, we are glad to leave the car park at Kibworth Mead Academy and head for the warm Main Hall to play table tennis. All are welcome and the first session is free, including the coaching on Wednesday nights from 7pm (beginners) and 7.45pm (improvers) with free play from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

League Results

After opening victories in the first week of October, it was a sharp 10/0 reality check for Fleckney’s first team (F1), although I can’t imagine there would be a better team than Knighton Park 8 (KP8) in the division. There was another defeat from KP13 for F2 in the same week; but F3 managed a tight match and a 5/5 draw with contributions from everyone, only just missing out in the doubles against Desford Village 4. F3 led Division 5 in October and will be good for a strong top half finish.

The 9th brought another point for F4 with two wins from Matt Tattershall on his League debut, and a first win for Craig Bosworth in his first season. Fleckney 2 had their first 8/2 win of the season against Winstanley Wizards 4 (WW4) but it was back down to earth for F3 after their good run with a 9/1 defeat against Syston Casuals 5, another strong team.

Juniors Lennon Devlin and Omar Morsy, together with Rob Logan scored a 7/3 win for F4 against WW6, and there was a good bounce back for F1 with a 8/2 win against Desford 2, a maximum from James Robertson and doubles from Bob Palmer and Paul Gilmore. KP2 put F2 in the shade with a 7/3 defeat on 22nd October. The end of October gave us a tough night for F4 against Desford 4 with a 10/0 defeat but F3 cheered us up by beating Regent Sports 2 7/3. Well done Nathan Ogden, Pete Wilson and Russell Ferguson. While Andy Haddon, Rikesh Panchmatia and Drew Harbidge saw off Holwell Sports with a 6/4 win.

NOW SPINNING AT KIBWORTH!

Fleckney Table Tennis Club is settling into its temporary home at the Main Hall of Kibworth Mead Academy (see picture). We were gratified to see that the team which beat us in the semi-final of the Elbow Tankard went on to win the top prize, and we wish all our junior and senior League players good luck for the coming season.

Our first match on September 5th gave us a 3/7 defeat courtesy of Knighton Park (KP) 14 with Omar Morsy winning two of his games, and Pete Wilson and Jan Nix winning our third point in the doubles match. On the 18th there was a 10/0 defeat for Fleckney 4 (F4) against KP 15, and a brave debut in the League for Craig Bosworth who has been a member of the club for only a few months. The opponents are a wily crew! There was a good win for F3 in the derby against F 4 who lost 3/7 to their club mates with Omar Morsy the man of the match, winning all 3 of his games. It was a tough night against Leicester Tennis and Squash Club who fielded their three strongest players to win 9/1 against F 2 with Andy Haddon scoring the point.

The 1st of October saw another point for Fleckney 4, this time with Lennon Devlin contributing two matches and Omar Morsy the other one as they faced the team from Leicester Tennis and Squash Club. Our first team finally played its first match of the season that night with each team member contributing two matches in a reasonably comfortable 7/3 win against KP 10 which was a good start for F1 on their return to Division 3. Contributions from Naresh Shah and Jan Nix, plus Jan Green’s maximum against Nomads 2 made it two wins in a row for F3 with a score of 6/4 on 02/10/25.

As always, the first session and the coaching is free. This is an ideal sport to consider as the nights draw in.

September 2025 Newsletter

Fleckney 1 were confident going into the final Elbow Tankard match to decide the fourth semi-final team, fully expecting to overwhelm their own second team but were pulled up short when the latter went into a 4/0 lead. The first team dug deep with Bob Palmer notching 5 from 6, and Andy Haddon 4 from 6 to grab a 12/8 victory. For Fleckney 2, James Robertson took 5 from 6. The semi-final on 02/09/25 will see Fleckney 1 face the Three Musketeers (and the Abbots Allstars vs Fox Flix). This is the first time one of our teams has reached the semi-final of the Elbow Tankard Summer League. Despite a number of wins for each player, Bob Palmer Dillon Kearney and Drew Harbidge (pictured) lost 12/8 to the Musketeers.

The club has relocated to Kibworth Mead Academy, Main Hall, and sessions are on Wednesday nights with coaching for beginners at 7pm, and for improvers at 7.45pm till 8.30pm. Thereafter it is free play until 10pm. As the nights draw in and outdoor sport becomes less attractive as an evening activity, why not come along and try something new. Your first session is free (coaching included).
